On March 10, 2020, an armed group, led by Asa’ib Ahl Al-Haq militia member Hassan Trad Ghalim, assassinated human rights defender Abdulqudus Qasim, a TV producer and actor, alongside human rights lawyer Karar Adel. In the middle of Al-Amarah city, the masked gunmen stopped the car in which they were traveling in, and shot and killed them immediately after they ordered them to get out of the car.

Through his Facebook page, Qasim strongly supported the popular Tishreen Movement protests, and he had previously mentioned to his colleagues that he expected to be killed by outlaw militias. In what would become one of his last interviews, he stated,“I am 37 years old, from the city of Al-Amarah. I entered the world of theater after the Iraqi regime change in 2003. I am striving for change and fighting unawareness and superstition, and this is what I have worked on in many theatrical works.”

Their fellow protesters attended their funerals, expressing their grief and resolve to continue their protests until their goals are achieved.
