Qais Al-Khazali is the founder, leader, and the secretary-general of the Iranian-backed militia Asa’ib Ahl Al-Haq (AAH), also known as Khazali Network, making reference to its leader’s name. In 2010, Al-Khazali recruited men for pro-Assad militias in Syria. His speeches have led thousands of Iraqi Shiites to fight for Assad’s regime in Syria, worrying many Iraqi communities about a sectarian conflict that increasingly expands beyond borders. To this date, Al-Khazali continues to deliver divisive and sectarian rhetoric against Iraqis and continues to fight Anti-Assad rebels in Syria.
