Ali Karim was a 26-year-old Iraqi youth peace activist. On July 24, 2021, a day after his disappearance, Iraqi security forces found the body of Ali Karim bullet-riddled in the chest and head. His body was found lying on the side of the street in the Al-Zubair District, in the Basra Governorate of Iraq.

 

Ali is the eldest son of prominent women rights activist Fatima al-Bahadly, where the young activist got involved early in the al-Firdaws Society, an Iraqi NGO founded by his mother that focused on protecting women and girls affected by war and campaigning against recruiting young people into armed groups, mainly those loyal to Iran. 

It should be noted that his mother has been facing smear campaigns owing to her rights activism. Ali is the second of Bahadily’s sons to have been killed. On July 27, 2021, the security services of Iraqi Kurdistan declared that they had arrested the killer and handed him over to the federal authority.
