Hoda Khudair was a 23-year-old civil society activist and paramedic. Khudair participated in protests and worked as a volunteer paramedic supporting injured demonstrators. By participating in peaceful protests against the corrupt government,  opposing Iran’s influence in Iraq, and for aiding the injured protesters in her hometown, she became a threat to and target of the Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. Khudair was shot with a silenced pistol  by gunmen linked to the Iranian-backed militia the Badr Organization after she left the sit-in square in Karbala.
