Sajad al-Iraqi was an activist and supporter of the Tishreen Movement. In multiple occasions he had been receiving death treats as well of threats of having his house bombed, because he possessed files of corruption that would incriminate senior officials in the country. On the night of August 22, 2020, Sajad became the target of an attempted assassination with an explosive bomb attached to a motorcycle that targeted two tents belonging to protestors at Al Habobi Square in Nasiriyah city. As a result of this event, 11 injuries were reported. 

Around a month later, on September 20, 2020, Al-Iraqi was kidnapped from one of the streets of Nasiriyah city in Dhi Qar Governorate. While he was in a private hospital with his friends visiting a patient, two pickup cars carrying seven armed persons linked to Badr Organization asked Sajad’s friends to hand him over quietly. Once they refused, the armed persons severely beat them, injured Sajad’s friend Basim Falih, and kidnapped Sajad and disappeared.
